PROJECT ASHA

Hope To Grow

Project Asha is a non-profitable student-led organisation. We target household staff, drivers, plumbers and any others (and their children) who don't have the access and education we do. Initially aimed at providing English lessons to the underprivileged. However, with time we felt that it was imperative to communicate with them, exchange thoughts and help them specialise in their skills. Now we have guest speakers, educators and various others who could help them pursue their areas of interest such as cooking, art, craft, music etc. We ensure proper Covid protocols are followed during these sessions.

WHAT WE AIM AT

We aim to create a safe platform where people can exchange thoughts, learn, enhance interests and interact with various artists, home chefs and hygiene specialists to increase their limited understandings. This project focuses on bridging the gap between home workers and the privileged and help use our privileges and resources to help others. We try to make them feel more included and accepted and make it easier for them to do their daily chores without facing difficulties. Not only do we encourage them to learn the basics of English and attain knowledge on topics such as personal hygiene and the ongoing pandemic but also push them to pursue a new hobby such as art, needlework, music etc.

HOW IS IT HELPFUL?

Challenges faced

Initially, we faced problems with reaching out to people. They weren't comfortable with computers, showing their faces o zoom or interacting with each other. Over time they became quite comfortable with it, looked forward to these classes and spread the word of our initiative. Now, we have individuals ranging from the age group of 12 to 35.
